|
|
I've got a G2 that I just got running again (thanks Ross & Chuck!), and I wanted to upgrade something on it. I've got about $25 (I know, it isn't much), but I have found a couple things that would fit my budget AND seem to have gotten decent reviews on pbreview.com. I'm not a hardcore player, so I don't need top-notch everything, just something to make my marker a little nicer.
What should I get? Everything on my marker is stock. I currently have a bottomline, and would like to keep it. Oh, I'm using CO2 (no HPA fill stations here).
PMI Razzor Barrel 14" for $18 (incl. shipping)
Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360177641120&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
pbreview: http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/464/
Empire Inline Regulator (w/gauge port) $20 (incl. shipping)
Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330373406098&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
pbreview: http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/4480/
Ion Inline Regulator ($23 incl. shipping)
Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290292570671&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
pbreview: ???
There's also a WGP reg here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290353878088&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT and a Pure Energy reg here http://cgi.ebay.com/Pure-Energy-Inline-Vertical-ASA-Paintball-Regulator-Reg_W0QQitemZ170402031962QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item27acc0a95a, but neither has a port for a gauge from what I can tell.
What should I get? Or do you have a better suggestion (include link, if possible, please)? _________________ "Daddy, I pooped in God's house."

No replies? No one has a suggestion? Some of these are ending tomorrow, so I'd like to figure out what to invest in. If it were your fish, what would you do first? Reg or barrel? _________________ "Daddy, I pooped in God's house."

I would go with a regulator but the CO2 is gonna runs it's toll on the o-rings, but that would be the best upgrade it will definitely help with consistency, out of the regs you listed the Empire one is the best. _________________ "If At First You Don't Succeed Then Maybe Failure Is Your Thing." |

| I hate to say it but I am not going to advise you on what products to get when you are looking to ebay and not me. 2nd point, $25.00 is not going to get you anything worth owning. Not saying some of the regs are not decent or even very good because they are. But you will also need to add plenty of other thing to the gun to properly use the reg. |

Thanks for the comments. Ross, do you have something in my price range that you'd suggest? I'd love to buy a nicer reg, but I don't have $60+ to put into one right now, otherwise I'd definitely look here. Do you have a used one around for near the price range I'm looking at?
I'm looking at upgrading one thing at a time. I've put myself on a tight budget for extra spending money (house, food, family, etc. come first, and $25/mo is what I can put in). I figured a barrel and a reg the first few months, then...? I'm totally open to suggestions. I don't HAVE to buy the ones on ebay; those were just the ones I was able to find for the time being. If I were to make a reg worth it, what else would I need to invest in? Do you have a valve or LPC that would be worth looking at? _________________ "Daddy, I pooped in God's house."

Just saw the 2k3/4 turbo valve and your full bore max valve pin (sorry about being slow at finding stuff, still getting used to the site). Would that be a better use of my $? What about the RAM air or LPC that you have listed? If I were to upgrade one or two things a month, where should I start?
Because of the help I've gotten here, I'd love to put money into your store in return. Where would you suggest I put it? _________________ "Daddy, I pooped in God's house."

Id still stick with the reg as your first upgrade.
The turbo valve and pin are great upgrades...topped off with the Boss Bolt...which would allow you to lower your operating pressure.
This stuff gives you something to think about down the road.

| The reg in a standard G2 Piranha without upgrading the valve really will do nothing to help you. It may actually make you gun worse. Without a high flow valve the reg is really just a air limitter, which may starve your gun and get you back to burping and not recocking. Running a reg with co2 and no anti siphon in the tank is just a quick trip to frying all of the o-rings in the reg. So yes the reg is a great thing to get but there are many steps toward being able to use it. I almost forgot the G2 front block is a total air choke as well. |

| You can drill it out. If you do you will have to use something to seal the air from leaking out the screw threads that holds the block in. |

wait, do I drill out the part where the bottomline screws into the asa, or the side where the valve spring goes? Would locktite work for sealing the threads? I used the blue stuff (the kind you can break open with normal leverage) to seal threads on my braided line, and it's working fine there w/o any leaks.
Here are some pics. Which one should I drill out?
Bottomline/filter?
To LP plug? (prolly not, since I don't have an LP, but it might help in the future)
To Valve?

You can begin by just knocking out those gold filters with a blunt nail, or punch.
That will free up your air flow significantly, without worrying about that screw hole leak that Boss mentioned.
Make sure when your through making a mess, that you thoroughly clean out the ASA of all gold particles.
Otherwise your cupseal may get damaged. _________________ "There's nothing you can do that can't be done." Having said that, there's a lot you can't do. |

I think I'll do that. Thanks. Should I also file down my valve pin more, or will I just be making a mess of things? _________________ "Daddy, I pooped in God's house."

| Yeah, start with getting the filters out. Then if you get a reg and valve drill the plug and valve side out. |

I found inline filters that I could put onto my braided line. Should I get that to make sure no gunk is getting in from my tank? I guess it'd be best to put it on BEFORE the reg to make sure the pressure to the valve wasn't too low. Do you have any, Ross? I didn't find any on your air systems page. _________________ "Daddy, I pooped in God's house."
